At the opening of the Cairo summit, Egyptian President Fattah El Sisi held firm to Egypt’s refusal to receive non-combatants leaving Gaza.

He stated that Egypt rejects “transfer to Egyptian lands in Sinai,” of non-combatants. He made no distinction for the non-combatants who desired to leave the war zone of Gaza.

Instead, he offered that displacement “will mark the last gasp in the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, shatter the dream of an independent Palestinian state, and squander the struggle of the Palestinian people…”

In the past, President El Sisi claimed that the rejection of the non-combatants leaving was to ensure that Egypt didn’t have Hamas use its land for terror attacks against Israel. He now adds that providing humanitarian refuge for non-combatants leaving Gaza “will never happen at the expense of Egypt…”
