Gazans reported to GazaPassage on Thursday that the Rafah border crossing was to re-open between Gaza and Egypt on November 11.
One source shared with GP International Envoy Edward “Coach” Weinhaus, Esq.: “We heard that the Rafah crossing will open at 11-11-2024.”
The rumor swirling flies directly in the face of Egypt’s proclamation in the Spring. According to Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the Rafah border crossing, essential for aid deliveries into Gaza, cannot reopen until Israeli forces withdraw from the Gaza side and restore control to the Palestinians. This statement follows Israel’s seizure of the crossing during its military offensive against Hamas.
However, with President Trump’s historic re-election, the idea that Egypt can keep Gazans locked in Gaza has evaporated – at least in Gaza.
GazaPassage is seeking to confirm the reports which have not hit the media.
Earlier, GazaPassage reported that the Israeli Supreme Court is set to make a decision on November 11, 2024, regarding a petition filed on June 6, 2024, by representatives of injured Gazans seeking permission to leave. The decision will impact the success of GazaPassage’s Pilot.
Sources in Israel confirm Rafah opening is under discussion but that neither the date nor the certainty is guaranteed. It would be under the auspices of the Palestinian Authority, according to the rumors.
Coach Weinhaus confirmed: “Nothing about these rumors changes our commitment to helping Gazan non-combatants escape a warzone.”
